Platelet-Rich Fibrin has been used in facial rejuvenation around the world since 2006. The treatment is ideal for individuals looking for gradual but noticeable improvements in skin texture, tone and color with minimal or no downtime. This revolutionary, natural procedure offers incredible skin rejuvenation.
Platelets in your blood contain numerous Platelet Derived Growth Factors (PDGF). These growth factors stimulate proliferation of fibroblasts and keratinocytes which produce collagen and keratin. PDGFs have a significant role in blood vessel formation, the cellular division of fibroblasts (the most common cells in connective tissue), and in synthesizing the extracellular matrix and collagen. Collagen production has been attributed to helping correct the visible effects of wrinkles.

What Happens During A Facial Rejuvenation Treatment With PRF?
Dr. Gill or Dr. Tatch will assess the degree of skin aging, perform a simple skin analysis, and recommend a sensible treatment with a reasonable outcome. After your skin is cleansed and prepared, local anesthetic cream is applied and nerve blocks may also be given. Blood is then taken from your arm and processed. To treat the entire face, PRF is injected via a syringe and applied to the skin with a derma roller. PRF is carefully injected into the target area to treat specific areas, such as around the eyes and laugh lines.
This procedure is not a surgical facelift, nor does it create the same effect as a facelift. The procedure helps restore or enhance areas that require volume. Improvement of skin texture and tone can be noticeable within three weeks, and improvement continues for the next 8 months as more collagen and keratin are laid under the skin. The results typically last 1 year or longer. Areas of treatment include cheeks and mid-face, wrinkling around the eyes, smile lines, nasolabial fold, neck and jawline, chest, acne scarring, and more. The process takes between 60-90 minutes, depending on complexity. We recommend three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart for the best result.
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) Injections for Under Eye Dark Circles
Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) injections are a cosmetic treatment that utilizes the body’s own blood to rejuvenate the skin, particularly in delicate areas like under the eyes. This technique aims to improve the appearance of dark circles, reduce hollowness, and enhance overall skin quality.
The PRF Process:
- Blood Collection: A small amount of blood (about 10-20 ml) is drawn from your arm.
- Centrifugation: The blood is placed in a centrifuge, which spins it to separate the components. This process isolates the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components.
- Preparation for Injection: The resulting PRF, rich in growth factors and proteins, is collected into a syringe for injection.
- Numbing the Area: A topical anesthetic is usually applied under the eyes to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.
- Injection Process: The healthcare provider injects the PRF into specific areas under the eyes. This is done carefully to ensure even distribution and optimal results.
- Recovery: After the injections, you might experience some swelling or bruising, but these effects typically resolve within a few days.
Benefits of PRF:
- Natural Treatment: PRF uses your own blood, reducing the risk of allergic reactions.
- Skin Rejuvenation: Growth factors in PRF stimulate collagen production, improving skin texture and elasticity.
- Minimal Downtime: Most people can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure.
Results:
- Improvement may be seen within a few weeks, with full results developing over a few months. The effects can last several months to a year, depending on individual factors and skin conditions.*
*Generally more than one session is required to achieve optimal results, and maintenance sessions are required thereafter. As with any procedure, there are potential risks, including temporary swelling, bruising, or infection.
PRF injections offer a promising approach to reducing dark circles under the eyes by harnessing the body’s natural healing processes. Schedule a consultation to discuss your options and determine if this treatment is right for you.
What Is the Difference Between
PRP and PRF?
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) and PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) are both treatments that utilize the patient’s own blood components to promote tissue regeneration and healing. While they share similarities, there are some key differences between PRP and PRF.
PRP involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient and processing it to separate the platelet-rich plasma. This plasma contains a high concentration of growth factors and platelets, which are then injected into the targeted area. The growth factors stimulate cell growth and tissue repair and promote hair growth, skin rejuvenation, or other desired outcomes.
PRF is a more advanced form of platelet therapy. It involves a similar process of drawing blood from the patient, but instead of separating just the plasma, the blood is processed in a way that creates a fibrin matrix. This matrix contains a higher concentration of platelets, growth factors, and white blood cells compared to PRP. The fibrin matrix acts as a scaffold, providing a sustained release of growth factors and promoting tissue regeneration over a longer period.
In summary, the main difference between PRP and PRF lies in the composition and release of growth factors. PRP has a higher concentration of growth factors initially, while PRF provides a sustained release of growth factors due to the fibrin matrix. The choice between PRP and PRF may depend on the specific treatment goals and the recommendation of a healthcare professional or dermatologist.

Typically, there is little to no down time associated with the treatment. Some redness of the treated area may last a day after treatment. Minor bruising may occur, but it will clear up in about a week and can be concealed with cosmetics. Normal activity can be resumed immediately, but your face should be protected from the sun.
PRF skin treatments are extremely safe. Because PRF is produced from your own blood, there is no risk of an allergic reaction. In addition, PRF contains a concentrated amount of white blood cells, your natural defenders against infections. As a result, infection is extremely rare with our PRF treatment.
Persons with skin disease (SLE, porphyria, allergies), cancer, chemotherapy, severe metabolic and systemic disorders, abnormal platelet function (i.e. blood disorders), and underlying sepsis may not be good candidates for PRF therapies.
